Hi all, been creating these 2D portraits and really enjoy doing them. I call them "Out of the Box 2D Portraits" An 8"x8" wrapped frame is $325.00. If the picture allows it, I like to make the ear pop out of the frame, I think it really adds to the dimension.

Straight-on photos work best, rather than photos taken from above or the side. (unless that’s the angle you prefer) Getting down at their level on the floor is the best angle. Make sure your pet’s entire face is in focus and not blurry.

Avoid harsh sun and shadows. Avoid indoor lighting if possible, especially during nighttime.
Couples are not use to spending so much time together, I get that...kind of. After all, COVID spelled backwards is almost DIVORCE.

My husband and I have been together for 19 years. Married for 16.

We met when I purchased a weekend country home, 2 hours out of NYC. We fell in love and then fell into a 2-day a week scheduled relationship. I had an amazing career in publishing and he owned a bike shop in town. I was not planning on moving my life upstate and he was not planning on living in the city, so we continued with a weekend lifestyle, until now.

When Covid19 hit, we both agreed it would be best for me to get out of dodge and head upstate. I am now a full-time fiber artist and work out of my apartment. Not knowing how long I would be away from my studio space, I packed up my crafting supplies (and my dog) hoping I took enough to get me through this time so I could continue to work.

But that was the least of my problems. From part-time marriage to full time quarantine? Hmm, will this work, how long will I be there, will we get along? This would be the first time in 14 years we would be as one for longer than a week. (There was a time in 2006, when I battled with anxiety and depression and spent an entire summer with my husband, but I was not myself and I was not in a happy place...so that doesn’t count)

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love my husband very much, we get along fantastically, have a ton in common, never fight (really), we look forward to seeing each other, to especially sleeping together, cooking, gardening and so much more but maybe that’s because of our 19 year arrangement. So, what will it be like to be “husband and wife”, to be like a “real” married couple?

Well, I’m happy to report, it’s been a little over a month and it ends up we really like each other, really! Who knew?

He makes coffee every morning and we sit by the fire in our cozy cottage and listen to NPR for Corona updates. I continue to craft during the day and he works on projects around the house. Early afternoon we listen to Cuomo. Around 5 pm, we have cocktails and play Rummikub. A game I played with my mom. He cooks our Hello Fresh dinner and then we settle in to a Netflix series. This we find the most interesting part of our togetherness. We don’t go to the movies, we don’t watch television series. When you only have weekends together, you tend to do other things. We’ve already binged Tiger King, Ozark, Unorthodox and just started Dexter. We also realized, after 4 weeks together, we needed a new mattress. My body was starting to ache, so since we have another bedroom, and until our Nectar mattress arrives, we’ve decided to sleep in separate beds...just like a real married couple.
Facci Designshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04746683426889822207noreply@blogger.com48tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7364514204932820672.post-31168632131412976122019-09-11T13:33:00.000-07:002019-09-11T13:33:22.074-07:00Custom DIY Canvas Apron

I love adding that special touch to our BnB's, so I try to create custom items whenever I can. Lot's of times people like to stay in our cozy cottage and cook, so I thought, why not make an apron?

I used 10 oz Natural Cotton Duck Canvas from FabricWholesaleDirect.com. It's a strong, heavyweight, durable fabric. The fabric itself is also soft and
flexible, making it easy to work with.
Natural cotton duck canvas is frequently used for both crafts
and apparel, so since I have some left over, I think I'm going to make a reusable grocery bag too!

But, back to the apron. I wanted to give the apron a little color, so I added a trim of Turquoise Ottertex Marine Vinyl to the pocket and other areas. They come in a lot of fun colors but can be a bit difficult to sew since the foot of my sewing machine stuck to the vinyl. I ended up hand sewing some of the details.

Then, to make the apron even more special, I created a logo for our Bnb, printed it out on Printable T-Shirt Transfer paper which you can order through Avery, Amazon, Michaels, Staples, etc. Cut it out, placed it on top area of the apron and ironed it on.

I love the way it came out!
Add some whimsy to your bedroom with these fun DIY pillowcases. These
make great gifts for newlyweds, new home owners, college dorms and more.
Write any message you want!
My husband and I run 2 Airbnbs. One is called Storybook, the other Pine Grove. I thought it would be fun to write those on the pillowcases to greet our guests when they enter the bedroom...it's those personalized, extra touches that make our cottages popular.
You can purchase pre-made pillowcases but I decided to sew my own. I used 100% Cotton Broadcloth fabric from www.fabricwholesaledirect.com. The fabric comes in a variety of colors and it feels and sews great!

It's rather simple to sew your own cases. Standard pillowcases measure 21" x 32", but I made mine a bit smaller so my pillows would look extra fluffy. :)

Once you have your pillowcase sewn, it's time to create your message. I have access to design programs so it was easy for me to lay out the fonts and messages. But you can freehand your message if you like. I printed out my messages on 11x17 paper.

I taped my message to my window (but if you're lucky to have a lightbox, feel free to use that!) and centered my completed pillowcase on top of the message and outlined it in pencil. Remove from window.

Once I had the entire message outlined in pencil, I placed a piece of cardboard inside the case so the marker doesn't go through to the other side. I used Sharpies but I suggest using fabric markers. I outlined the message with a thin marker and then filled it in with a thicker marker. I also decided to keep it simple, using just black but why not create your message in color? I outlined my message with an embroidered border.

Wash your pillowcases in cold water and tumble low.

I decided on burlap and velvet. I ordered both from fabricwholesaledirect. I loved the idea of combining something rustic and something luxurious...just like my home. I went with a beige colored burlap (but it comes in 12 colors). It's an extremely versatile and durable natural fabric at a great price! The micro velvet is extremely soft and comes in so many colors, it was difficult to choose.

I'm not the best at sewing but I can manage simple projects like curtains, cushions, pillows. :) I decided to try piping for the first time....it was not that easy for me but I'm happy with the results for a first-timer. I found the burlap very easy to sew but the micro velvet can be a bit challenging.

I purchased these chairs which came with the beige cushions...hmm, I thought to myself, “This sitting area needs more pizazz and color, plus the fabric it came with was rather flimsy and got dirty fast.

I obviously needed a durable, outdoor fabric and something that can withstand the sun. I found this pretty Ottertax canvas from FabricWholesaleDirect.com. (Don’t let the name of the company fool you, you don’t have to be a huge corporation to buy from them, you can be a weekend crafter like me.)

They had so many fun, vibrant designs to choose from that I had a difficult time picking. But, being that I’m in Woodstock, NY, I thought this floral pattern was perfect...kinda goes with the feel and funkiness of the area and it surely will brighten up that back porch.

This canvas is perfect for outdoor and indoor projects. It features a plastic PVC backing and waterproof coating, making it extremely durable and resilient.

My sewing skills are limited and I didn’t want to spend an entire weekend making cushions with individual panels. So, I decided to wrap the cushion like a present...well, it is kind of a gift to the porch. :)

I removed the old covers and placed the cushion on the fabric, with Cocoa's help, making sure I had enough to cover the front, back and sides...just like wrapping a gift. I folded the fabric over the front of the cushion to the back and then wrapped the sides like a present. I made sure to have enough fabric in the back of the cushion to seal it. I folded the edges of the two side panels under, pinned it in place and removed it from the cushion. I was a little worried that my sewing machine might not be able to handle the fabric, but it easily did. Whew!
It's a type of fabric I think can go with just about anything and it's not very expensive to make.

I ordered a lampshade frame from www.lampshade.com. You can get burlap bags online. Here's one place. http://burlapfabric.com
I wrapped newspaper around the frame to make a pattern. Then I laid that pattern onto the fabric. I cut it about an inch larger all around and then pinned it onto the frame.
The burlap bag is sewn together on the sides with a thicker burlap string. I took it apart and used that string to sew the fabric to the lampshade frame. I folded the bottom and top pieces of fabric under and stitched that as well.
Light on!
My mom is from Stuttgart Germany and as kids we would receive a package from her aunt every Christmas. Marzipan and Gummi bears, advent calendars, chocolate ornaments wrapped in foil and more would be nestled in a pretty box. We were so excited to open the package!

I wanted to make some marzipan candies this year for Christmas. But of course, I wanted to do something different. The internet is filled with mini marzipan fruit DIY's, but couldn't find much else.

I always assumed almond paste was marzipan...but no! Almond paste is used to make marzipan. You can purchase already made marzipan in a tube or make your own.

I decided to make my own marzipan. It's so simple, it's just a combo of almond paste, powdered sugar and corn syrup. (You can find a ton of recipes online.) If you want to die your marzipan with food coloring, do this right before you are ready to make your candy. I found a pretty frame mold, brushed it with cornstarch and pressed the marzipan into the mold. While it was still moist, I trimmed it with an exacto blade. Let the candies dry at least 24 hours before you decorate. If you're going to add some sugar pearls, do this before they dry. Once dry, I dipped some in chocolate, highlighted them with food coloring, brushed some with edible lustre dust and inserted an edible image inside the frame...so the entire frame is edible! (Find a bakery that has an edible image printer and ask them to print your images for you). I also used marzipan pieces to help the frames stand up. I "glued" them on with royal icing.
I love the look of birch branches, the stark black diamond shaped markings against the bright white bark. The black and white color combo is a timeless and elegant color scheme. Sunburst mirrors create a big impact even in small spaces. Try hanging
one over a mantel, sofa or above a console. This focal point mirror is
created with the Faux Birch Technique. Gold leaf applied to the tips adds a unique elegance to the branches. Individual pine cone shales frame the center mirror and completes the effect.

This is a fun project to do with your kids (make sure an adult does the frying). They'll have a good time creating the different heart shapes with cookie cutters, a hole puncher, decorative paper scissors and more.

If you don't have any fancy scissors or cutters, just use a regular scissor to cut out the hearts.

Materials:
Wonton or Egg Roll Wrappers
Vegetable Oil
Powered Sugar
Honey
Sprinkles, non-pariels
Decorative Paper Scissor/Stamp
Hole Puncher

How To:
1. Gather your supplies.
2. Cut out your shapes, have fun!
3/4. Place in heated oil, until light brown, flipping occasionally. It's a good idea to place your fried hearts on a paper towel to soak up any excess oil.
5. Once cooled, sprinkle on your powered sugar.
6. Dizzle some honey on top of your powered sugar so your sprinkles stick to the hearts.
7. Or just use honey...or chocolate syrup!
8. Have fun with your shapes.

Happy Valentine's Day!
I use to purchase plastic noses but have decided to start felting them. After the noses are felted, I paint on a melted colored wax. It's a product called Swax that is mixed with a black pigment. I get it from http://www.sarafinafiberart.com/

I prefer it so much more since I now have control over the exact size. When plastic noses only come in so many shapes and sizes, this makes it a whole lot easier to create any size dog I want!
I've named her Cocoa, that's after the chocolate, not Chanel. Cocoa's tongue hangs out permanently due to having all her teeth removed when she was in the kill shelter. I just think its makes her that much cuter!

She loves her new home and we're having a blast!
